A rare Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust reference 1601 model with a black 'pie pan' dial marked out with very rare eighteen carat gold stick markers that are inlaid with a creamy white center. These markers are seldom seen and have toned in with a gorgeous warm patina. The dial itself has become a form of tropical and has a speckled look to it now, very attractive to look at, especially in bright sunlight.
The case is made in stainless steel and features the trademark screw down crown with Rolex coronet. The smooth bezel is also quite rare on these watches. There were a variety of different engine turned and coin edge versions over the years, but the smooth, simple version present here really acts as a great frame to the dial, keeping the eye fixed onto the beautiful dial, that these pictures do not do justice. The watch is powered by the classic Rolex Swiss made twenty-six jewel automatic calibre 1570 that also powered the iconic sports watches such as the GMT and the Submariner.
The watch was made circa 1975 with serial number 403XXXX. The watch is in original condition, with the case having been polished over the years, as is common, however it remains thick and sharp. The watch comes with a Foundwell one year warranty against mechanical failure.
